PHTA Welcomes Second Round of Comments on Revisions to PHTA-5 Standard

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance is inviting a second round of public review and comments on revisions to the ANSI/APSP/ICC-5 2011 (R2022) American National Standard for Residential Inground Swimming Pools. The standard in development will be the PHTA/ICC-5 Standard for Residential Inground Swimming Pools.

This second round is a 30-day public review, and comments are limited to the revisions printed in the March 25, 2024, edition of the ANSI Standards Action newsletter. New content was added to ensure the standard reflects current industry practices and requirements.

The PHTA/ICC-5 standard applies to permanently installed residential inground swimming pools intended for noncommercial use as a swimming pool by not more than three owner families and their guests and exceeding 24 inches in water depth. Stakeholders include builders, code officials, installers and consumers.

The objective of this standard is to provide recommended minimum guidelines for the design, equipment, installation and use of residential inground swimming pools. It is also intended to assist local jurisdictions and other regulatory bodies, where necessary, in the development and promulgation of criteria for residential inground swimming pools.

All public review comments are due Dec. 15, 2024.

For more information on the draft standard, visit the PHTA-5 webpage, email standards@phta.org or call 703-838-0083.
