FSPA and PHTA Announce Affiliation Beginning in 2027

The Florida Swimming Pool Association and the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance have announced an affiliation agreement that will give FSPA members membership in PHTA beginning Jan. 1, 2027, while preserving FSPA’s independent governance and operations.

Announced Sept. 22, the agreement combines FSPA’s Florida advocacy, chapter network and market resources with PHTA’s national education and certification programs, standards development, workforce initiatives, research and advocacy.

The affiliation also reconnects organizations with shared roots. FSPA operated as Region VII of the National Spa & Pool Institute in the 1960s and 1970s, became an independent affiliate in 2001 and became fully independent in 2008.

“This affiliation allows us to maintain the identity, leadership, and local relationships that make FSPA strong while giving our members access to an even broader network of education, resources and expertise,” says Keith Johnson, FSPA president.

The associations say the agreement is intended to expand access to education and certification, strengthen workforce development and advocacy, and support consumer safety initiatives. The organizations already collaborate on drowning prevention through PHTA’s Step Into Swim initiative.

“There is tremendous power in bringing the industry together while continuing to recognize the importance of strong state and local leadership,” says Scott Frost, chairman of the PHTA board of directors.
