Big Benefits
Jandy’s TruClear XL Salt Chlorinator is an extra-large upgrade
When it comes to salt chlorination, bigger is better — at least when comparing multiple smaller units to one larger, more efficient system. That’s where the new Jandy TruClear XL Salt Chlorinator comes in.
Several years ago, Fluidra launched the TruClear family to serve medium-sized pools up to 30,000–35,000 gallons, while its legacy AquaPure platform could handle pools up to 40,000 gallons. The new TruClear XL builds on both.
“We wanted to target larger pools but leverage the TruClear naming to expand the family,” says Goëry Cussenot, global director of product for Fluidra North America. “At some point, it’s aiming at becoming our flagship when it comes to our saltwater chlorinators.”
Ryan Brashear, owner of Ryan’s Pool Service in California, has used the TruClear XL since beta testing. “The transition from AquaPure is seamless,” Brashear says. “If the units are in good condition, you can just put it in the same place, which is nice.”
The system can treat pools up to 45,000 gallons and is designed as a sturdier, professional, premium option for new and existing pools. It also integrates into Fluidra’s broader Jandy bundles of automation, pumps, filters and heaters.
“As we often say at Fluidra, one plus one equals three,” Cussenot says, explaining that when you bundle products — especially when it integrates with AquaLink automation — the benefits multiply because everything works together.
Fluidra’s golden rules
Whenever Fluidra develops a product, Cussenot says the company relies on a few guiding principles: the product has to work, be reliable, be easy to install, be easy to use and look good. And it must deliver on its promise.
“In the U.S. market, saltwater systems are recognized as one of the most convenient sanitization systems,” Cussenot says. “It’s an efficient and healthy way to sanitize a pool without having to handle too many harsh chemicals.”
That trend is strong: Depending on the region, between 30% and nearly 70% of new pool builds include salt systems, Cussenot says. Even as new construction slowed post-COVID, aftermarket demand grew, making retrofit capability a key focus.
Designed for ease of use
The TruClear XL was built with installers in mind. For pools with an AquaPure system, the upgrade is simple. “You just have to remove the old cell and fit the TruClear XL in there,” Cussenot says. “It’s the same dimension, so it’s really easy.”

The system also includes a motion sensor and LED indicator to ensure the cell is installed properly in a horizontal position, making troubleshooting simpler. The control box is more compact than previous generations, a perk on crowded pads.
Brashear also highlights the system’s higher chlorine output, consistency and smart features. “The ability to change the output through your phone, and how consistent it keeps your pool,” are standout benefits, Brashear says.
Stronger performance
One of the biggest improvements is in maintenance. “With the same pool, same water and same standard setting, the TruClear XL cell is much more resistant against calcium buildup versus other products,” Cussenot says. The design maximizes hydraulic efficiency and uses polarity reversal to self-clean, extending the time between manual cleanings.
The cell also incorporates two gas traps for safety and features temperature compensation controls, which automatically adjust chlorine output as water conditions change. This protects the cell from strain in extreme temperatures and helps ensure consistent performance even in high-use residential pools.
But Brashear says the biggest appeal of the TruClear XL is that the salt chlorinator can handle bigger and high-use pools — while still delivering the comfort people expect from saltwater.
“[Pool owners] like it because the benefit of salt in the pool is it’s nicer on your skin, your eyes, your hair and everything,” Brashear says.
Long-term savings and ROI
For homeowners weighing up-front costs, Cussenot points to long-term return on investment. “Yes, you have an up-front cost for a salt system, but once you have it, the running costs are very low and the bathing comfort is very high,” Cussenot says. Compared to the annual cost of chlorine tabs, granules or liquid injection — which can range from $500 to $2,000 per year — the TruClear XL typically pays for itself in two to four years.
Brashear echoes the long-term value, pointing out that the replacement cycle and reduced chemical purchases make it more affordable in the long run.
Tested and supported
Cussenot says Fluidra takes pride in testing and development — in the field with stakeholders and pool professionals, and with consumers — to ensure a product is ready for market. Feedback from those tests helped refine the XL’s design.
And support continues after launch. Fluidra offers its Pro Academy training online and in person, partners with the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance on education and has a field service team that assists dealers alongside the sales team. “It is very important for us to deliver not only the product, but the whole solution for a perfect pool experience,” Cussenot says.
For service pros, reliability is key. “When a salt system is in place and working, a week later, [the pool] is going to be just as you expect it,” Brashear says. “The current levels will still be as anticipated, and the customer is happy, which makes the pool servicer look good.”
