Smart Scheduling
Inside Intermatic’s PE700 Series Wi-Fi timers
Intermatic is known in the electrical controls industry for lighting control and energy management solutions, and the company is expanding its portfolio with new connected technologies.
One of its recent releases, the PE700 Series Electronic Wi-Fi Time Control, is designed to give pool pros a modern upgrade path from traditional mechanical timers without stepping into full automation.
Designed for outdoor environments, the timers feature Wi-Fi control and a temperature rating of -40 to 158 degrees, allowing them to operate in a range of climates, from desert regions to humid coastal areas.
The units include automatic input voltage selection, knockouts that allow the control to be retrofitted into existing Intermatic enclosures and remote access through the Intermatic Connect app. Those features allow installers to configure a single product in multiple ways to meet different application needs.
Once installed, pool professionals can use the app to create basic 24-hour, seven-day on/off schedules for connected equipment, then transfer access to homeowners. For maintenance situations, the PE700 Series also includes a service mode that prevents external users from making changes while technicians are working on-site.
Wi-Fi timers like the PE700 Series offer more flexibility than traditional mechanical timers commonly found on pool pads. The app allows homeowners to make adjustments remotely or turn equipment — such as pumps or submersible lights — off as needed, which can be useful during travel or sudden weather changes.
For service professionals, the retrofit-friendly design is one of the unit’s main selling points.
“It’s been a favorite choice among pool customers who are looking to upgrade an existing mechanical timer to a smart control,” says Brian Lamberty, product marketing manager at Intermatic. “They also appreciate the adaptability of the control. It lets them keep one Wi-Fi control in their service van, knowing it can be made to fit a wide range of pool applications and installation needs.”
While the PE700 Series is not designed to integrate directly with pool automation systems, its rating and functionality make it suitable for several pool-related uses, including pumps, submersible lighting and auxiliary loads.
Intermatic’s long history in electrical controls continues to influence how new products are developed.
“We’re lucky to lean on more than 135 years of experience and best-in-class manufacturing facilities,” Lamberty says. “We also pride ourselves on quality, so when we begin exploring a new product category or solution, it’s anchored to performance in the field. Our decades of work in the industry also give us a unique opportunity to listen to our customers and base product features around their core needs.”
Customer trust has been central to the company’s longevity, and Intermatic says it plans to continue refining both new smart technologies and traditional electrical controls as demand for connected devices grows.
At the center of the PE700 Series is a focus on practical flexibility — giving pool professionals a control option that can work across many installs without requiring a full system overhaul.
“As the industry continues to shift toward remote and app-based solutions, we like to encourage installers and pool owners to get creative with how they incorporate our Wi-Fi control into their projects,” Lamberty says. “For example, we see a huge opportunity to use the PE700 Series with vacation rental properties, a segment that’s seen enormous growth in the past few years.”
For contractors and homeowners alike, the PE700 Series reflects how connected devices are steadily becoming part of everyday pool management — offering expanded control, simplified scheduling and an easier way to modernize older pool pads.
