For Maddy Vandiver, pools have always felt like home. A competitive swimmer in her youth, her first jobs in the industry were as a lifeguard, swim instructor and coach. That early connection to the water eventually led her to the service side of the business, where she found her true calling. After a brief break from the industry, she joined The Pool Butler in 2021 and knew she had found the right fit. “It is my home, my co-workers are my family and I can never thank Tim and The Pool Butler enough for all the opportunities and everything they have done for me,” Vandiver says.
As maintenance supervisor and company trainer, Vandiver plays a central role in building knowledge and culture within the team. Her colleagues aren’t just co-workers — they are friends who spend time together outside of work at company events and team bonding activities and even have their own fantasy football league, The Cloudy Pools League. “We are all one big happy family,” she says, noting proudly that she is the league’s back-to-back champion. What she values most about the pool industry is its energy and variety. “Every day is different, and it keeps you on your toes — it’s very hard to get bored,” she says.
In 2023, Vandiver earned her CPO Instructor Certification, a milestone she had long been working toward. Already holding multiple credentials, including CMS, CPO, CST, NPC Start-Up Technician and Jack’s Magic CSS certifications, she views teaching and sharing knowledge as the next chapter in her career. “Ultimately, I would like to teach all of the time,” Vandiver says. “I want to be one of the ones who helps write the textbooks.”
Vandiver’s path has not been without challenges. Losing her father at 19 reshaped her life and career trajectory, forcing her to change directions from sports medicine to business. “I literally had to grow up overnight,” she says. Through faith and perseverance, she found her way to the pool industry, which she credits with transforming her outlook. Professionally, she has also navigated obstacles such as short staffing and lack of training resources, overcoming them through determination and a commitment to continuous learning.
Away from work, Vandiver enjoys bass fishing, Georgia football (“Go Dawgs!”), golf and baseball games. She also loves time with her fiancé, friends, family and her beloved cat, Tiger.
