Did you know PoolPro is run by women?

A closer look at the pool gals of PoolPro magazine

Megan Kendrick
Editor in chief

Megan grew up in North Dakota but escaped the cold to attend college in Phoenix. She went on to get her master’s in journalism from Northwestern University and got her first post-graduate job at Bigfish Publications in 2008. In 2018 she bought PoolPro and SpaRetailer from Bigfish and started Kendrick Content. In her 14 years in the industry she’s gotten married, had two children and moved from Arizona to Oklahoma for her husband’s oilfield job. Almost all the major milestones in her life she’s celebrated with the pool and hot tub industry.

If you have a favorite TV show Megan has probably watched it, or at least half of it as she falls asleep at night. She’s an avid podcast listener, reader and tries to spend her weekends outside doing house or yard projects despite resistance from her husband.

  • Life motto: “This too shall pass.” Something my mom says that reminds me that nothing in this world lasts forever.
  • Self-proclaimed superpower: Doesn’t panic in the moment
  • Favorite part of the pool industry: Seeing water change the lives of those work in, care for and use our products.

Brittany Alloway
Art director

An Arizona native (something she says is rare these days), Brittany graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in design studies in 2011. Brittany came to the industry through an internship with Bigfish Publications (the former publisher of PoolPro) in 2010. She was brought on as a staff member in 2017 and became art director when the Kendricks purchased the magazine.

Brittany has traveled to over 20 countries and counting; she loves new experiences and adventure. Some of her favorite travel memories include cage diving in South Africa and stargazing in the Moroccan Desert. She also enjoys taking her shepherd mix, Dax, on hikes and to the park. Food is a favorite pastime: Brittany likes to check out new restaurants and try her hand at cooking new recipes with her boyfriend.

Life motto: “God’s got this.” No matter what the circumstances may be, God always has a plan that is better than mine!
Superpower: Meeting incredibly tight deadlines with speed and efficiency.
Favorite part of the pool industry: The hard-working, incredibly fun and good-hearted people.

Michelle Cramer
Managing editor

A Springfield, Missouri, native, Michelle graduated from the University of Missouri in 2003 with a degree in English literature. After a five-year stint as a legal assistant, Michelle started working as a freelance writer so she could stay home with her children. In 2011, she started freelancing for PoolPro and was brought on as managing editor in 2018.

Michelle is as eclectic in life as in her personal style, often calling herself a “punk rock hippie.” She’s a professional photographer and started a nonprofit providing free pictures for medically fragile children in 2013 (oawphoto.org). She and her husband, Josh, have been married for nearly 20 years and have two boys: Eli, 14 and Lincoln, 11. Together her family enjoys hiking, fun vacation experiences and dressing in elaborate Halloween costumes.

Favorite part of the pool industry: The camaraderie

Megan Nicholson
Business development director

Megan graduated from the AIB College of Business with a degree in business management and travel hospitality. She has worked in corporate travel, but most of her experience has been in marketing for an ad agency. Megan’s introduction to the pool industry came through her husband, Joe, who worked for an accessories manufacturer. Megan joined Kendrick Content as part of the business development team in 2019 and became sales director in 2020.

Megan and Joe are high school sweethearts, and will celebrate 25 years of marriage this year. They live in Denver with their 15- year-old son, Weston. Their daughter Macy, 19, is studying radiologic technology. Both children are lifeguards! The family is fanatic about Disney. There is no outdoor activity, sporting event or trip Megan and her family turn down; their current favorite pastime is riding their Pedego Electric Bikes on Colorado trails.

  • Life motto: “Life is short: Work hard, play harder.” When my husband was faced with death at a young adult age, we realized how important it is to live each day to the fullest.
  • Self-proclaimed superpower: Over-thinker who can come up with 10 possible outcomes to every situation
  • Favorite part of the pool industry: The pandemic has forced us to look around and enjoy our surroundings; the pool industry has stepped up to meet those visions.
