Hats off to the one-polers

PP25-1 welcome - mentoring

We have dedicated a fair bit of this issue to one-polers.

People may look down on these solo-preneurs, but not me. Some of the sharpest businesspeople and most knowledgeable pool experts I’ve met in my 17 years in the industry have been one-polers.

Expansion is the goal for most businesses, but I think it’s admirable to know what you want and stick to it. Adding employees and customers inevitably comes with more headaches and responsibility. For some, it’s not worth the stress. If you can make the income you need to live the lifestyle you want, more power to you. And for those solo operators who want to expand —  you’ve got to start somewhere, right? We’ve compiled all kinds of tools, tips and advice for pool pros who go it alone or are early in their business ownership journey.

You may have noticed in our last issue that we are working on a new series in partnership with Fluidra highlighting sustainability, whether in a particular project or in business practices. As our industry and world evolve, energy efficiency, water conservation and other sustainability practices are becoming more important. We’re hoping these stories (and don’t miss the videos that go along with them!) will show you how other pool pros are tackling these issues across the country. And if you’ve got a great project or initiative at your business, let us know and we may include it as well.

I know most are in that preseason frenzy (maybe working through checklists). Best of luck as you prepare your business and employees for a successful, profitable and fulfilling pool season.
