Wread Richardson
Designer

Wread Richardson says he learned the industry from one of the best: His uncle, Paul Ryan, owner of Texas Pools in The Woodlands, Texas. Ryan was “a genius pool designer who had won more design awards himself than most companies do in their lifetime,” Richards says. While working with his uncle’s company, Richardson designed pools for ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill and won multiple APSP design awards. When Ryan sold his business and retired, Richardson moved to Florida to work for Dustin Maherg at Nautilus Pools

Maherg reached out to Richardson about two years ago asking for design help, but also assistance managing the operations side of Nautilus Pools. “After much hard debate, I gladly accepted the offer to relocate to Florida and start a new adventure,” Richardson says. “After the COVID boom and spending my first year learning the different aspects of building at or below sea level, I am finally getting to start designing again.”

Richardson loves helping people realize their dreams for their yard if just so he can take in their reactions. “The look on my client’s face when I know I have hit the mark for their yard is like no other,” Richardson says. “It’s such a rush helping people be the happiest they can be.”

Richardson’s goals include trying to retire by age 45 so he can do design work for people all over the world. That dream may come more easily than one might think once Richardson has finished securing his wings: He is working on his pilot’s license to help him realize “the dream of traveling to visit clients that would have been outside of a normal travel radius before,” Richardson says.
